Twitch Gearbox

This collection of tools has been assembled for both streamers and viewers on Twitch. Features include finding the most popular tags used across the platform and a stream filter that gives you a powerful new way to find your next favorite streamer.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often are the popular tags updated?
They are updated every 10 minutes.
Do you have any archive tag data from previous dates?
I have not implemented an archive of tag data, though I would like to at some point. Right now it's real-time data, updated every 10 minutes.
Why are there no language tags?
I made the decision to remove tracking of the language tags that get automatically added to a stream based on the language of the channel. This was mainly due to the English tag and how many channels use it.
Why don't I see a certain tag listed?
The "All Twitch Tags" section only shows tags that are in use by 20 or more different channels. I decided on this to simply cut out a majority of tags that were low quality.
Can I scrape your site for tag data?
Please don't. If you are interested in an API key to fetch the top30tags and alltags datasets then contact me. Since the server this is hosted on is not the most robust, I have to keep traffic at a minimum.
What is the "Include all tags" checkbox on the filter page?
Currently Twitch only allows you to filter streams using a single tag. Hopefully this will change, but until then, you are not able to filter streams using multiple tags. This filter option makes it possible to search for a stream that may have both an "English" and "Cozy" tag applied. An example would be a search for english, chill, cozy would return streams that have those three tags applied.
Is this open-source?
I am sharing the source a little at a time until I feel more confident in the code, but it is not fully open-source at this time. You can review the code published so far at this GitHub repo.
Do you plan on adding more tools?
Yes, but the tag and stream filter were the tools I wanted to share as soon as possible.
Is there a changelog?
Once I open-source this onto GitHub there will be, but until then the best option would be to check my Mastodon for any updates or changes.
What if I run into an issue or bug with the site?
Please let me know of any issues you encounter so I can fix them. The best way to report an issue is by opening an issue at the GitHub repository. You can also contact me using the above Mastodon link.
Anything else we should know?
The stream filter was heavily inspired by CommanderRoot's tool, which is a tool I've personally used to find many of my favorite streamers.
